Naturelle is The Greenery’s organic division. It provides a year-round and full range of certified organic vegetables and fruit to supermarket chains and organic food shops in the Netherlands and elsewhere. “To be able to offer a full range throughout the year we import products to supplement the supply from our Dutch growers. For example, we have added delicious freshly green limes from Mexico to our standard range,” says Efrain Saucedo Nunez, who buys the limes on behalf of Naturelle.

Organic lime grower Javier Moreno will be supplying Naturelle with his high-quality products throughout the year. Javier, whose farm is located in Colima, on Mexico’s western coast, has been growing limes since 1976. “We owe our delicious freshly green limes to the sunny climate in this region,” Javier explains. In the 1990 he turned his attention to organic production methods. “I decided to switch to organic because I didn’t want my family and my employees to be exposed to chemical crop protection agents.” He also wanted to minimise the environmental impact of his operations: “My orchards are quite close to the sea, and I didn’t want to risk spoiling the complex marine ecosystem.”

Limes are very suitable as an organic product because the peel is often used as well, in all sorts of dishes and drinks. This is why consumers feel much safer with limes that have been grown organically.

“In our shed we have facilities to enable us to package our limes in different ways. But of course our fresh organic limes are also sold individually”, Efrain concludes.
